March 23, 2011 – Bikes for Cuba just received some great news from Cuba. The Banes School Team that the organization is supporting with bikes and gear, has sent seven kids to a provincial competition and testing week in Holguin City. The team has completed the event in first place ahead of all the other municipalities, including Holguin City!
This is a large part because of all the bikes and gear they have received from Canada through Bikes For Cuba.
One of their young riders, Lazaro, has been selected to attend la EIDE in September. La EIDE is the special sports school for talented young Cuban athletes.
With all the support Bikes for Cuba has been receiving from across Canada, program founder Jeff Reid is sure that Lazaro will be followed by many more young cyclists from Banes.
