The BikeCAD applet was first written in 1998 by Brent Curry. Brent had worked for bicycle companies all over the world including Vitus in France, GT Australia, Vancouver based Syncros Applied Technology and Dekerf Cycle Innovations also in Vancouver. Brent saw the need for a parametric CAD tool that was specific to bicycle frame design. The applet was made available for free that year on the Bicycle Forest web site.
In 2004 the Bicycle Forest released BikeCAD Pro, the commercial version of BikeCAD which features many additional forms of output. Today, BikeCAD Pro is more than just a tool for serious frame builders. It is also used by bicycle retailers and schools.
