August 1, 2003 (Toronto, ON) – In mid-July Scott Bentley won Pedal's TransRockies 2003 Contest and immediately embarked on finding a partner and making arrangements to take part in an adventure of a lifetime. Scott got it together in short order and now as he put it “… all that's left is the fitness.” With support from Bike Werks bike shop, Scott and partner, Zac Wheeler, are now entered as the Bike Werks/Pedal Team 2003 and ready for action…

Zac Wheeler Zac Wheeler is 29 years old and a cycling guru from Peterborough. Zac has been riding for over 13 years. Introduced to mountain bikes at the age of 16 it quickly changed his life. Finding himself with a growing repair bill at the local bike shop, he  made a deal to work it off and has been working as a bike mechanic ever since. Cycling has taken Zac to many different places: touring from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Phoenix, Arizona; moutain biking in the Chihuahuan desert of southwest Texas; plus many cycling trips in many different locales across Canada. Racing has also been a large part of Zac's riding career. From his early days as a beginner to the pro/elite level in Ontario he has many accomplishments. He is most proud of a 1st place at the 24 Hours of Summer Solstice (solo category) in both 2002 and 2003. Now focusing on longer, enduro-style distances, the TransRockies is the ultimate challenge and has been on his list of 'things to do' since reading about it in early 2002. Zac says, “TV sucks-ride your bike.” He currently rides a Devinci Moonracer.

Scott Bentley Scott Bentley, aka “Wheels”, is 33 years old and has been  known to race anything from wheelbarrows to race cars. He's been hooked on bikes since he built his first road bike at age 14, from a slightly bent Raleigh frame and a bunch of other 'unwanted' parts. Although, participating in many road and mountain bike races in his early 20's, Scott was pulled away from the sport for a few years with work commitments. Returning two years ago with a renewed  sense of self, Scott can be found at any number of mountain biking events across Ontario, from Windsor to Calabogie. He has also participated in a number of triathlons over the past two  years. Hoping to ride Master Expert next year in the Ontario Cup Series, Scott sees the TransRockies 2003 Challenge as a test of his last two years of  training. He currently rides a Trek Fuel 100.
