December 22, 2006 – Cycling BC, in cooperation with the Canadian Cycling Association and the Victoria 2007 BMX World Championship Society, is pleased to announce the bid process for the 2007 Pre-Worlds Championship to be held from Friday 19th July to Sunday 22nd July, 2007 in British Columbia.
In past years the competition has been held at the host World Championship Track but due to changes in UCI policies/regulations, the traditional Pre-worlds event held the weekend before the World Championships will now be held at an alternate location. Consequentially, Cycling BC is accepting applications from existing or new BMX Clubs interested in hosting the 2007 Pre-Worlds Championship.
The three step bid process will require interested clubs to submit an initial expression of interest, complete a formal bid package, and then make a formal presentation if they are short listed to host the event. New and existing tracks should submit, to Cycling BC, an expression of interest in the form of letter signed by the President
of their club no later than 4pm on January 12th, 2007. Clubs
expressing an interest will receive 2007 Pre-Worlds Championship Bid
Package shortly after this deadline and be required to submit their
official bid by February 17th, 2007. Presentations from short listed
clubs will be scheduled as soon possible after the bids have been
reviewed.
The BMX Worlds will take place in Victoria from July 23 – 29, 2007.
The week-long activities begin on July 23rd with UCI meetings and the
Annual BMX Congress. Sport practice sessions begin on July 24th with
competition to begin on July 26th. Over 2500 athletes from over 40
nations are expected to participate in these championships. This
event will be a pivotal event for the sport as it will be one of the
most important events for Olympic team selections as the sport makes
its debut on the Summer Olympic stage in Beijing, China in 2008.
