October 9, 2008 – The Beaver Valley 180 takes place tomorrow, October 10 with a 7:00 a start at Dearcroft Montessori School in Oakville, Ont. This event represents the true spirit of group rides and this year’s ride will be in support of Special Olympics Ontario. Click here for more information.
When the race season is behind us it is time to enjoy the fall colours and put the final miles on the bikes before the ski season. This ride traverses Southern Ontario departing from Oakville and arriving over 180 km later in Beaver Valley.
This is not a race rather a collective effort by the peleton.
The ride has averaged over 30 km/hr for the past 4 years with the pace being spirited at times. This ride leaves no man behind. The day is filled with camaraderie and an opportunity to meet new friends. That evening riders will gather with friends and families to celebrate the day and kick off Thanksgiving weekend.
Riders in the “Beaver Valley 180″ recognize their good fortunes and the importance of supporting others in their goals. This year, in the spirit of the upcoming Olympics Games we will support our Special Olympic athletes in order that they realize their dreams.
For the past two years we have used this ride to “˜do some good’.
This year we are proud to support Special Olympics Ontario.
The essence of the ride will be “˜Athletes helping Athletes’, affording athletes of all ages the opportunity to achieve their goals of competing.
“Special Olympics is founded on the belief that people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports”.
As athletes ourselves lets participate in helping to achieve the dreams of these special athletes.
