October 9, 2009 (Vancouver, BC) – We received word late last night from Larry Zimich that Barb, his better half, was involved in a serious accident last Saturday resulting in a broken femur and complicated leg surgery. We join the cycling community in wishing her a speedy recovery.
I wanted to pass on to you about Barb and a serious cycling accident she had last Saturday. While riding home on the Lions Gate bridge Barb was clipped by a pedestrian’s jacket blowing in the wind which sent her to the ground. She was injured seriously with a broken femur which was complicated by spiral fractures to the calves.
After a very complicated surgery and four pints of blood lost, Barb had her leg reconstructed with plates and 10 screws. Unfortunately we found out today that Barb also now has a blood clot in the left lung, further complicating things.
Not a great time, wanted you to know.
