BC Training Camp Report

January 8, 2007 – The camp was held over three days, based in Vancouver. All athletes were tested on the track and a short physiological test using SRMs to measure basic aerobic capacity and sprint powers. For some of the riders this was the first time they had ever seen a track, and was their first taste of track riding. From the feedback, this was a very positive experience.

Two team meetings took place, with the help of Ed Schum. We talked over goal setting and where we are now as a province, “the best way forward”.

On day one we headed out for a road ride as a group, covering two to two and a half hours. A short time trial pace effort as a group was incorporated into the ride. Levels of ability at this time of year vary greatly, but we managed to keep the group together with the aid of support vehicles. Due to weather on the last day, the camp was cut short, as it was deemed unsafe ride.

This is just the start of things to come, and riders have been missed out, but we are looking forward to making sure the next camp is a success in Victoria, with hopefully more riders and a much greater focus on conditioning.

Many thanks to Tim Kilcullen, Ed Schum, and Fred Rothengatter for their help and support during the last three days.
