July 25, 2004 – This was the 25th running of one of the hardest road races in BC. In the women’s race a two-rider break was established containing Sara Neil and Olympian Alison Sydor and these two riders would race neck and neck until the finish. Sara Neil from Trek VW took a hard fought win over crowd favorite Alison Sydor and American Suzie Weldon beat the field for third.
In the men’s race attacks went up the road right from the gun to get the first lap hillclimb prime. However on the second lap the first serious eight-man break went away containing the eventual winners of the race. Around the halfway point the break split and only five men remained. Aussie Caleb Manion won over Will Routley and strongman Kirk O’Bee. On the last three of the six finishing laps the main field shattered and riders came in in small groups.
