For those hoping for a 2013 berth, please add your name to the wait list (info@bcbikerace.com). Our past experience tells us that there are circumstances that do arise that will open existing spots up; sometimes those already registered must change their plans for any number of reasons (weddings, lack of fitness, work, partner changes, injury, etc.), so cross your fingers and let us know you are still interested.
Going into its seventh year, BC Bike Race has once again reached 100% capacity. All 550 participants will start the ‘best week of their lives’ with package pick-up in North Vancouver on June 29. The race will then commence on June 30 in Cumberland, B.C. and racers will make their way through the “Ultimate Singletrack Experience” to the final day in Whistler, July 6.
With the success of last year’s Enduro (13 chip timed sections) placed within the existing event categories of Epic and Challenge, BCBR has reached a whole new level of excitement; “The riders are in control of their own destiny, he or she can truly choose how to race throughout the whole week, day by day, XC or Enduro or mix and match,” said course manager Jeff Stromgren.
Last year, Day 7’s new course in Whistler eclipsed the usual rider’s favourite of Day 6 Squamish, but the vote was close. Each day’s course director vies for the prestigious prize and honor of being the favourite. In the creation of this competition we see some amazing elbow grease put into each and every course; whether a new trail or a spruce-up, a tweak or a simple rake and buff each course is undergoing some form of change for the better.
BC Bike Race is a unique mountain bike stage race that boasts the ‘Ultimate Singletrack Experience’; at 75% tight trail, the course must be carefully considered to allow passing and points to allow fueling of the body. We could literally go 100% trail and have done so on a few occasions in the past, but that much trail is simply mind boggling. Our courses are handcrafted to cater to the pure enjoyment of the trail rider; not the longest or the hardest but simply the “most fun”.
2013 is set to roll out with a host of amazing participants hailing from 23 countries, either Challenge or Epic they will tackle an amazing course and revel in an awesome singletrack experience. Best wishes and good luck to all the competitors as they plan out what will surely be a focused training session leading up to this year’s event, June 29- July 6th. See you on the start line.
BC Bike Race has some amazing partners in the creation of this annual event; Partners like Harbour Air, BC Ferries and Shimano have immense commitment to facilitating the entire experience of those attending. To move our entourage over the route that links such amazing communities couldn’t happen without BC Ferries. Harbour Air the Founding Sponsor has flown lost travelers and their bikes many times to remote locations in tight timelines to reunite and aid racers in completing their adventure. Shimano will up their involvement in 2013 with two neutral tech stations located in conjunction with the Clif Bar Aid Zones.
We would also like to thank all our returning sponsors for their commitment and assistance with making BC Bike Race an awesome event that allows its participants to focus on what we all truly love to do – Ride our Bikes!
