October 29, 2003 – After a stellar season that had its pinnacle in Hamilton, Ontario, with a seventh place at the Elite Men's World Championships, Michael Barry has renewed with the USPS-Berry Floor team for 2004.  Barry's season was arguably his best ever, with several top results in Belgium, Portugal and Spain. Barry also finished his first ever Grand Tour, the Tour of Spain, where his team leader Roberto Heras won the overall.  “I am excited to be back with USPS for 2004,” Barry says, “Over the last two years I have made a steady progression.” That progression should carry into 2004, and although his schedule has not been finalized yet, it may include the Tour de France.

“Next year I hope to have a greater role in the one day races,” Barry continued. In Tour de la Region Wallonne this year Barry finished a strong 9th overall, proving he has the power to be not only a domestique, but a leader if called upon. He also hopes to have the opportunity to do the Tour and Vuelta. Barry came oh-so-close to a victory this year, claiming second in a stage of Tour of Algarve. “This year has been a great one both for my experience and versatility. I've had the chance to do a great set of races, and I think I've been consistent throughout. It's a fantastic experience riding for the New York Yankees of cycling.”

Next year Barry's teammate Lance Armstrong will be gunning for his sixth victory. For many Canadians, it's exciting to think that Barry might be there. “We will see as the season progresses, but I hope to have the opportunity to do the Tour and the Vuelta.”
