March 13, 2006 – Already popular with roadies, Austin, Texas may become even more cycling-friendly with news that a non-profit group, The Austin Velodrome Project, recently announced plans to establish a $ 35 million indoor wooden track in the Texas town. Rumour has it that if the plans become reality, USA Cycling may also move to the new location.
The 5,000-seat velodrome plans include developmental cycling programs for road and track, as well as a museum of Lance Armstrong paraphernlia. According to American Statesman Armstrong himself is reported to be supportive of the museum, “I have a lot of my stuff – all my bikes from every Tour and all the jerseys. You could certainly put some interesting things in there.”
USA Cycling’s offices are currently located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, alongside Triathlon USA.
