August 6, 2002 – (Manchester, England) – Stuart O’Grady (Australia) who justfinished the Tour de France, third overall in the points competition, haswon his first race of the year – the Commonwealth Games road race.

In acompetition that was dominated by the super-strong Aussies, O’Grady escapedfrom agroup that had Eric Wohlberg (Canada), who finished fifth and Michael Barry(Canada) whoplaced ninth. Mapei rider Cadel Evans (Australia) and FDJeux.com rider BadenCooke (Australia) rounded out the podium, with domestic pro, Glen Mitchell(New Zealand),who rides for Navigators, in fourth.
