August 05, 2012 (Dieppe, NB) – It was a super warm day, but it was a great day at the Caisse populaire Dieppe / Memramcook Vélodrome. August fifth marked the first Atlantic Open Track Championships since the major renovations held last fall. The day went super well (considering the almost 40 degrees we got!) and the riders we well motivated to use such event as a launching bloc for the Canadian Track Championships to be held in Dieppe from September 12th to 18th later this season.
In the B group, Natalie Cormier (Memramcook, NB) and Luc Comeau (Porters Lake, NS) battled it out all day and both ended up with 10 points after 5 events. The eventual tie breaker gave the advantage to Cormier to take her first Atlantic title. The third spot on the podium went to René LeBlanc (Moncton, NB).
In the A group, Dieppe’s Rhéal Jaillet took the title by take 4 out of the 5 events for a total of 7 points. Jean-Richard Cormier and Julien Roussel (both of Dieppe) took 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
In an out of championship event, the riders also took place in a match sprint tournament. Interesting fact to note in this event, is that both titles took the photo finish to determine the eventual winner. In the A group, Rhéal Jaillet beat Jean-Richard Cormier by 2 hundreds of a second. Tough to beat you think? Natalie Cormier took care of business and took the B title by 1 hundred of a second over René LeBLanc! Julien Roussel (A) and Luc Comeau took the third spot in this event.
A great thanks to the many volunteers and officials who helped us bring this event to a great success!
