Atlantic Cycling Centre Launches Tour de Dieppe

July 12, 2007 – The National Cycling Centre-Atlantic Canada, in partnership with the Mike`s Bike Shop cycling club, is proud to host the first ever masters and women’s stage race. This race will be held on August 4-5, 2007. Cyclists from all maritime provinces are expected to attend.

The first stage, held on the 4th on the afternoon, will be an 2000m individual pursuit on the Caisse populaire Dieppe velodrome. A free track 101 will be held the morning of the race for those who have never ridden on a velodrome. The use of a track bike will be required for this event (it will be possible to use the rental bikes available at the centre).

The second stage will be a criterium on the streets next to Nubody’s in Dieppe held in the evening on the 4th. The race will be one hour long for the masters and 45 minutes long for the women. There will be intermediate sprints for points and time bonuses.

The third and last stage will be a road race held on a 15km loop in the afternoon of the 5th. The loop includes Melanson road, Dieppe boulevard and Champlain street. The men will do 7 laps for a total of 105 km and the women will do 5 laps for a total of 75 km.

Points and leaders jerseys will be awarded in both categories. Riders not wishing to participate in one of the stages will receive the time of the slowest person who has completed the stage plus a penalty.
