August 11, 2018 (Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC) – Sunshine and a mob scene of fans greeted the top downhillers in the world for round #6 at the 28th running of the UCI MTB Downhill World Cup held today at legendary Mont-Sainte-Anne.
Rachel Atherton (Gbr) Trek Factory Racing DH was the clear unstoppable winner in the Elite Women’s race by a 5-second margin in contrast to the Elite Men’s contest that saw reigning world champ, Loic Bruni (Fra) Specialized Gravity, the second-last rider down the mountain, deliver the run of the day to take the victory by a mere 0.321-second margin. “Really happy to get the win today,” said Bruni. “Wasn’t sure it would happen again but it’s nice to touch those feelings and it’s great for the team as well.”
Canada’s Miranda Miller (Specialized Gravity) finished 8th in the Elite Women’s race while Mark Wallace (Canyon Factory Downhill Team) was the top Canuck in the Elite men’s field. Amaury Pierron (Fra) Commencal / Vallnord clinched the series title with his fourth-place finish despite a training run crash as fans were treated to some of the finest racing on what’s touted as the longest and one of toughest courses on the circuit.
Reigning national champ, Piper Allman, was 4th in the Junior Women’s race won by Valentina Holl (Aut) who claimed her 6th win. Elliott Jamieson was the top Canadian in the Junior Men’s final placing 6th as Thibaut Daprela (Fra) Commencal / Vallnord took the win.
