June 25, 2004 – Two weeks after the fabulous 2004 UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne which captivated the large audience attending them, the pre-Olympic track competitions were successfully held from the 9th to the 12th of June 2004 on the track of the superb Athens velodrome.Organised with a view to making any last-minute technical and organisational adjustments before the Games, this event included the participation of two world champions. Also present were Mr. Felli, Executive Director of the IOC, Mr. Terzis, President of the Greek Cycling Federation, Mrs. Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, President of the Games Organising Committee, Mr. Assimakopoulos, Sports Managing Director of the Games Organising Committee, and his counterpart for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Mr. Qiuping.
