March 2, 2004 – The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is pleased to announce that Teryn Rae Buna of Kelowna, B.C. and Ryan Flannigan of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan have been chosen to represent Canada at the Athens 2004 Olympic Youth Camp (OYC).

The Athens 2004 OYC is a cross-cultural exchange program that brings together more than 400 youth from around the world and will take place August 11-26, 2004 in Athens, Greece. The Camp provides an opportunity for youth to experience the spirit of the Olympic Games first hand, expand their knowledge of the world's diverse cultures, learn more about the host country, and share their own experiences.

Buna and Flannigan have demonstrated excellence in athletics, academics, and community activities and were chosen from more than 100 exceptional applications received from across Canada. The COC worked closely with the Canadian School Sport Federation (CSSF) throughout the process.

Teryn Rae Buna, 18, is a first-year student at the University of Calgary and member of the Women's Varsity Field Hockey team. She has been a member of the B.C. provincial girls field hockey team since 2001. In 2003 Buna graduated from Kelowna Senior Secondary School with a 95 % average and was recognized as Kelowna's Young Female Citizen of the Year for her outstanding contributions to the community. Buna has previously worked with the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation as a Youth Ambassador and was part of the Canadian Delegation in Prague in July 2003 when Vancouver was awarded the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Ryan Flannigan, 18, is in his graduating year at Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where he maintains a 96% average and an avid interest in science. In 2002 as a result of outstanding accomplishments in the field, he was a selected to attend a prestigious Australian Science Forum. Athletically, Flannigan is a skilled archer, ranked first nationally in the Junior Division and will represent Canada at the World Junior Championships in England in July. He has also proudly represented Saskatchewan at the National Weightlifting Championships in 2004. Flannigan is a recognized leader in his community where he delivers motivational speeches to youth on the importance of pursuing excellence in both academics and athletics.

During the OYC delegates will participate in a series of cultural and educational activities in and out of Athens, including a one-day cruise to the islands of Saronikos. They will also attend workshops and seminars related to the Olympic Movement, visit the archaeological areas of Epidauros, Nafplion, and Mycenae, and have an opportunity to visit the Olympic Village.

November 22, 2003 – Canadian youth dreaming of an opportunity to attend the Olympic Games can set their sights on the Athens 2004 Olympic Youth Camp. As part of the upcoming Olympic Games in Athens, the Canadian Olympic Committee is seeking two Canadian youth to attend the Athens 2004 Olympic Youth Camp (OYC). This program provides an exceptional opportunity for nearly 400 youth from around the world to participate in a unique intercultural experience.

The Athens 2004 OYC will take place August 11-26, 2004 in Athens, Greece, and is open to youth aged 16-18. Applicants with a demonstrated excellence in academic, athletic, leadership and community activities will be considered to attend the Camp.

The Camp is designed as an opportunity for youth to experience the spirit of the Olympic Games first hand, expand their knowledge and appreciation of the world's diverse cultures, learn more about the host country and share their own experiences.

Delegates will enjoy activities designed to educate,motivate and entertain. The program will involve travelboth in and outside of Athens, including a one-day cruise to the islands of Saronikos, as well as a visit to the Olympic Village.

All costs related to the Athens 2004 OYC, including participants' flights to and from Athens, along with accommodations and meals during the program will be covered by the Athens 2004 Organizing Committee and the International Olympic Committee.
