July 31, 2012 (Montreal, QC) – Canadian U23 road race champ, Antoine Duchesne, who currently rides for Garneau-Quebecor, will be riding for SpiderTech p/b C10 for the rest of 2012 as a “stagiaire” (apprentice). This news was confirmed today with SpiderTech team co-owner, Steve Bauer.
Bauer also confirmed that Duchesne will be at Elk Grove, Trittico Lombardia, races in Belgium and in Holland with SpiderTech. While Duchesne hopes to sign a contract with SpiderTech for 2013, this remains tentative for the moment.Duchesne, who turns 21 on September 12, described himself as “an all-rounder” when we contacted him. “I can climb well but not long climbs like a real climber, I can time trial but not a specialist and I can go fast but not enough to win a sprint.” Duchesne spoke well of his Garneau-Quebecor team. “I really loved my two years with them. Louis [Garneau] took really good care of us and we have a nice program for developing young riders like me. Next year they’re turning Continental so you never know – maybe I’m going to stay in this team. But right now, I’m going to focus on the August program with SpiderTech and try to make the best out of it and see, after that, if I have any good offers.” Apart from his cycling career, Duchesne also reveals an interest in wine. “I finished a [certificate] in management and marketing, and I was supposed to do a sommelier class this fall. But it turns out I won’t be able to do that, so I will have to work to get some experience in that field. After my classes are done I would like to be a rep for a private wine import company or a big winery and represent them in the USA… or something like that. But for now, I’m focusing on cycling.”
