Albion Hills Hosts North America\’s Largest 24-Hour MTB Event

June 22, 2006 – Chico Racing will host the largest 24 hour mountain bike team relay in North America this weekend, June 24th-25th. With over 2,200 participants at the 24 Hours of Summer Solstice presented by Sporting Life, this weekend’s race is packed with friendly competition, entertainment, camping and camaraderie celebrating the sport of mountain biking. The 24 Hours of Summer Solstice presented by Sporting Life is in its’ 8th successful year.

“Our mission is to provide riders with all the services of a world class event, but with a grass roots feel. The event is more about providing a good time for participants, and less about winning,” says Adam Ruppel, President, Chico Racing.

The 24 Hours of Summer Solstice presented by Sporting Life will kick off this Saturday June 24th at noon and go until Sunday June 25th. Riders race on teams ranging in size from ten-person to the soloist, and their goal is to ride as many laps as possible over 24 hours on a 17.5 km course. Many riders race through the night with lighting systems while others opt to sit it out and wait for the sunrise to get back on the bike.

The 17.5 km course utilizes some new technical single track that will challenge those of all ability levels. The Shimano Kid’s Race will take place on Saturday June 24th at 4 pm where all of the under 9 year old participants will receive a medal, t-shirt and a chance to win a Norco mountain bike.
