2009 Alberta District BMX Points are Complete
Roddi Lega, your greatly adored BMX Coordinator at the ABA, has finished compiling the 2009 Alberta District Points. It was very dangerous work and because he had to look at a computer screen for heroic amounts of time, Roddi’s vision is now equal to that of a Vampire Bat. In the end, Roddi is happy to get these out so you can have holiday fun with them. If you find an error with the points, contact Roddi at the ABA and he’ll look into it. roddi@albertabicycle.ab.ca

2010 Alberta Summer Games are taking Place in Peace River from July 19-25
Mountain Bike XC
New for the 2010 Games is the fired up kid on the block, the “Cross Country Mountain Bike” race. This electrifying young hipster of an event is back after a few years of rest and relaxation from the AB Summer Games. Youth aged 11 to 16 from each of Alberta’s 8 zones will be competing for the celebrated AB Summer Games medals.

BMX
Back for another exciting showing is the gorgeous BMX event. There was some questions about the BMX event in the 2010 Games, because Peace River currently doesn’t have a track. We are pleased to say that with the help of some great people in the Peace River area, and some Gretzky style assists from the fine looking St Albert BMX, it’s looking like there will be an excellent new track to throw down on for Alberta’s top 11 to 16 year old ninja BMX’ers.

The Alberta Bicycle Association is still in search of volunteers to fill a number of positions for both the BMX and the XC mountain bike events. These positions include,
Coaches/chaperone. Two are needed for each of Alberta’s eight zones, with one being male and one female. A minimum of one of the two coaches for each zone are required to have completed the “intro to competition” coaching course, as well as the BMX or MTB tactics module.
Zone Representative. for each zone. The zone rep is in charge of setting up and promoting their zone’s qualifying event(s), as well as keeping track of athlete information.
If you are interested in volunteering and helping out our promising young athletes, please contact either your track president or the Provincial Sport Coordinator, Roddi Lega. You can also check out the games website here for more information. To view a map of Alberta’s zones, click here.
