July 19, 2005 – Following today’s news of a tragic accident involving six members of the Australian National team, in which 29-year-old Amy Gillett was killed, Pedal wishes to extend heartfelt support and condolences to the families and friends of all members.
The riders were training the day before the start of Germany’s largest stage race for women, Thuringen Rundfahrt. The six women were descending when a car lost control and hit them from the opposite direction. We join the entire world cycling community in wishing a speedy and successful recovery for all of the other team members, 20-year-old Alexis Rhodes, 23-year-old Louise Yaxley, 22-year-old Katie Brown, 27-year-old Lorian Graham, and 20-year-old Katie Nichols.
Feel free to post any thoughts or well wishes concerning this unfortunate accident on our Forum. We’ll make sure the riders get them.
