February 02, 2013 (Louisville,Kentucky) – Marianne Vos (Netherlands) was dominant once again winning her fifth consecutive Elite Women’s CX title at the 2013 UCI CX World Championships – her career 6th. The race began at 11am in Louisville with massive crowds lining the course with slightly warmer conditions (just below freezing) than the Junior Men’s race that just finished.
Katie Compton (USA) claimed the silver, riding in alone after having a bad start due to mechanical problems. Local fans were hoping to see her grab the gold but cheered her loudly as she crossed the line in second.
Katerina Nash (Cze) looked like she had third locked up but Lucie Chainel-Lefevre (France) passed her as the finish line approached. Then Chainel-Lefevre had a slip up or a mechanical as Nash came around the final corner alone. But her bike wasn’t ok, and as she tried to wheel across the line Chainel-Lefevre was able to claim the bronze ahead of her in the final metres.
Emily Batty was the top Canadian in 16th place with Mical Dyck in 19th, Wendy Simms in 22nd, Pepper Harlton in 24th and Julie Lafreniere in 27th.
