July 01, 2012 (Windham, New York) – Canada’s Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team) locked up the overall UCI MTB World Cup title in blistering heat at round #6 in Windham, NY in the beautiful Catskills Mountains on Saturday. Pendrel took the victory leading a Luna podium sweep with teammates Katerina Nash (Cze) and Georgia Gould (USA) sharing the final podium.

It was a bitter sweet win as a heartbroken Gould, who dominated the race, flatted just before the finish and was forced to run her bike across the line for third place. It would have been her first WCup win, made even more special at home, but the fateful flat allowed Pendrel and Nash chasing behind to catch and pass her only metres from the finish line.

“I was so sorry to see Georgia’s flat at the end as she dominated the race and deserved the win today. But there was nothing we could do,” said Pendrel post-race. “When I saw Katerina was going to sprint I had to go for it. I wish it worked out better for her [Gould] but I’m happy to clinch the overall title and see Luna sweep the podium here at Windham.”

Fellow Canuck Marie-Helene Premont (Rocky Mountain) landed on the podium again with another fabulous day claiming 4th. Premont started out strong as she did the previous weekend at Mont-Ste-Anne and was able to keep her cool on a tough, hot day of racing to grab her second podium in as many races. Emily Batty (Can) Subaru-Trek was just outside of the top ten moving up at the end from the mid-teens finishing 11th. Batty sits sixth overall and Premont is ninth.
