Roth Wins Tro Bro Léon, Boivin 3rd Report & Photos – SpiderTech’s First Victory of 2012

release by Team SpiderTech powered by C10

April 16, 2012 (France) – Canadian road cyclist Ryan Roth (Cambridge, ON) of Team SpiderTech powered by C10 posted the first victory of 2012 for Canada’s only professional cycling team, winning the Tro Bro Léon race in France.

Sprinter Guillaume Boivin, which finished in sixth place at the GP de Denain Porte du Hainaut on Thursday, and who is consistently in the Top 10 on European soil, came in third place to round out the podium.

Team SpiderTech relied on teamwork and numbers to pull through for the victory. Keven Lacombe was key in setting up the team for a critical section midway through the race, which allowed the team to arrive into later sections with strength and numbers.

“I don’t know. I am just surprised!,” said Ryan Roth after the race. “I can’t believe I caught Berthou from team Bretagne-Schuller. At that point in the race, your brain is barely functioning. But I just remembered in our race meeting, we said this race rewards aggression. With 50km to go, we just kept attacking to make sure we had guys in the front.”

Directeur sportif Kevin Field said: “I think the guys were just hyper-motivated today. There is something special about this race for us. As the saying goes, ‘one man with a belief is greater than a force of 99 who only have an interest.’ The guys went ‘all in’ today, and we really believed we could win. I’m ecstatic for the guys, perfect team work.”

Guillaume Boivin, who took the third place and his third podium of the season today, was thrilled for the team: “It would be hard to ask more of the team. It’s our first win of the season, and we are enjoying it fully. We had been very close to that victory for so long now… it’s great to finally clinch it.”

The 206-kilometer course featured 25 sections of dirt, rock and cobble stones.

In 2011, it was Will Routley who performed at this race, taking the second place, and he believed in his team’s chance to win: “We had a legitimate chance to win. Today was a total team day. We had experience here and a good plan. We got ahead of the race and we put numbers in the final.”
