Annie Last (Gbr) is at the front with Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Rabobank), Karen Hanlen (Nzl) and Canada’s Emily Batty getting a good start. Catharine Pendrel (Can) Luna is about 10th.
Ferrand Prevot (Rabobank Giant) gets a gap with Batty in second as Julie Bresset (Fra) BH – SR Suntour-Peisey Vallandry takes over third – Sabina Spitz (Ger) is in fourth with Pendrel now in 5th.
Bresset takes over the lead as Batty remains in second with Pendrel now in 3rd.
Lap 1
Bresset comes thru in 15:03 with Pendrel in second at 2s and Batty in 3rd at 3s – Katerina Nash (Luna) is 4th, Blaza Klemencic is 5th followed by Spitz in 5th. South Africa winner Maja Wloszczowska (CCC Polkowice) is 8th. Canada’s Marie-Helene Premont (Rocky Mountain) is in the 20s.
Bresset and Pendrel are pulling away as Batty drops back in 4th or 5th. Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa (Multivan Merida Biking Team) is in the top 10 and trying to move up.
Bresset has opened up a 10-second gap on Pendrel – then it’s 30+ seconds back to the chasers with Wloszczowska and Ferrand Prevot there.
Nash has a chain problem…
Pendrel is gaining on Bresset
Bresset comes thru in 33:42 with Pendrel just behind at 7s… then there’s a 39 second gap to a group of three including Wloszczowska 3rd, Klemencic 4th and Ferrand Prevot 5th.
Batty is at 1 minute with Kalentieva (Rus) and Katrin Leumann (Sui)… Eva Lechner (Ita) is 9th and Last is 10th.
Pendrel catches Bresset and takes over the lead but the French rider is right on her wheel.
Bresset regains the lead… but Pendrel will not yield and passes Bresset again.
Lechner drops Last and has joined Batty’s group…
Pendrel tries to drop Bresset but the French rider is not giving her any quarter… up the climb to the end of lap 2 and it’s a 2-rider race today in Houffalize.
The rain is holding off…
Leumann has been dropped as Lechner, Batty and Kalentieva are together…
Pendrel has gap on Bresset of about 10s on Bresset following the climb.
Pendrel is on her own starting her third lap in 52:33 – Bresset is 16s behind…
Wloszczowska is in 3rd at 1:05 with a bit of a gap on Klemencic in 4th at 1:12 with Ferrand Prevot in 5th. Lechner is 6th at 1:34 followed by Kalentieva in 7th with Batty in 8th at 1:37.
Pendrel looks smooth and determined – now 22s clear of Bresset.
The three chasers are 50+ seconds back with Ferrand Prevot having a great ride staying with Wloszczowska and Klemencic is also riding well – all slated for the podium barring any mechanicals… they’re losing ground on the 2 leaders – now 1:30.
Batty is struggling to keep up with Kalentieva and Lechner…
Pendrel is now on the final big climb at the end of the third lap – Bresset is still on the downhill section.
Ferrand Prevot overtakes Wloszczowska up the climb…Lechner takes a fall.
Premont is in 16th…
Pendrel is on the downhill switchback section and looking comfortable…
Lap 4 FINAL
Pendrel starts her final lap with a time of 1:11:43… she takes a look and knows she’s got a healthy lead. Bresset is 36 seconds back.
Ferrand Prevot comes thru in 3rd at 1:41 with Wloszczowska on her wheel and Klemencic in 5th. Then it’s Kalentieva in 6th at 2:02 with a bit of a gap now on Lechner at 2:11 followed by Batty in 8th at 2:17.
Premont is holding on to 16th at 4 min…
Wloszczowska attacks Prevot and takes over 3rd but the French rider is not broken.
Bresset is now 55s behind as Pendrel powers ahead – Wloszczowska has gapped Prevot by 10s.
Batty has passed Lechner to take over 7th…Pendrel is on the final big climb.
