February 20, 2008 – Early on Wednesday morning 30 fire trucks and 150 firefighters battled a massive six-alarm fire that ravaged a section of Queen St. West where heavy winds made the situation worse. Duke’s Cycle, a well-known and popular bike shop in Toronto, and the third oldest bike shop in Canada established in 1914, was one of the unfortunate buildings caught in the blaze that was destroyed in the fire.

Amazingly no one is reported to be injured give the intensity of the blaze. The fire spread quickly to four or five buildings through the rooftops and apparently Duke’s Cycle, buckled and collapsed at about 7:30am.

Firefighters evacuated people from the entire block. At about 9:30am it appeared they were beginning to get a handle on the blaze.
