9th Annual UofT MTB Don Valley Trail May 31st Clean Up on CBC Radio

May 26, 2008 – The University of Toronto MTB Team’s 9th Annual Trail Clean Up Day takes place this Saturday, May 31 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm at the E.T. Seton Park parking lot off Thorncliffe Park Drive. The purpose of this event is to explore the trails, remove litter from the forest floor and plant trees. This event is open to anyone who bikes, walks, hikes, runs, and appreciates the Don Trails. Bring a friend! Gloves and garbage bags will be provided. A bike “Day-Care” will be set up to look after bikes while you help.

CBC Radio will be doing a show about the UofT Varsity Athlete led environmental efforts to clean up the nature trails of Toronto’s Don Valley. The show will air live on Saturday (May 31) morning between 7:30 – 8:00am (99.1FM). The program “fresh Air” will be broadcast across the province (with the exception of Ottawa). The topics we hope to cover”¦.

1) History of the volunteer clean up event
2) UofT’s commitment to supporting and enriching the student experience
3) Importance of the trails and smart sustainable multi use trail design
4) Environmental education — 80% of Canadians live in urban setting. Need to gain access to nature to appreciate it.
5) The positive results of collaboration (UofT, Community, Schools, City of Toronto, local businesses, etc”¦)
