April 3, 2008 – This Saturday the first fireworks of the Ontario cycling season are ready to go off! Lining up at the 8th edition of the Tour of Pelham will be defending champion Dan Lefebvre (Team RACE), 4X LaketoLake champion Josh Hall (KHS), 02 champ Johnnie Roden (Shickluna) and hometown boys Nathan Chown and Justin Hines of Team Handlebars NY. These five riders will have to battle against hometown pro Buck Miller (Team RACE) who has returned from Europe’s Tour of Normandie, and no doubt has some excellent spring fitness.
The 35km citizens event winds it’s way through some of Niagara’s prettiest countryside with a great mix of road, dirt road, and trail. Spotted with some key hills and mudbog chutes the riders will race Niagara’s version of the Tour of Flanders (which goes the same weekend in Belgium).
With 125 riders pre-registered and another 100 expected, and the sun due to shine it should be an epic day of racing. A mass start from Agape Valley will ensue with police and SCCC volunteers ensuring safe passage. A country breakfast awaits the finishers at the award ceremony.
