February 20, 2010 (Montreal, QC) – The eighth annual Expodium (Salon du Velo) consumer bike show opened on Friday at the spacious exhibition halls of Place Bonaventure. Expodium runs through Sunday, Feb. 21. Guests of honour at the opening ceremony included: Serge Arsenault (President of Grand Prix Cycliste UCI ProTour Quebec City-Montréal); Louis Barbeau (Director, FQSC); Catherine Dupont, (Executive Director of Canal Évasion); Eric Fournier (Director, Monteregie Tourist Region); and Jean-Francois Pronovost (Director, Velo Quebec).
In his keynote speech, the Expodium organizer, Jan Dubé surprised nobody talking about how his event encourages cycling in Quebec. But he surprised some by mentioning how the show also encourages romance: apparently Spidertech p/b Planet Energy team director and Canada’s most acclaimed cyclist, Steve Bauer, met his girlfriend, Josée Larocque at the Salon du Velo. “She used to be my show director,” grumbled Dubé.
With 200 exhibitors visitors can find a wide mix of products and services from manufacturers, retailers, bicycle touring organizers, race organizers, and much more. There is also a track set up where you can take bikes for a spin and a band, Pandomusique, that plays instruments made in part from old bicycles.
