February 2, 2007 (Montreal, Que.) – The Bicycle and Cyclotourism Show Expodium is proud to announce that Mr. Pierre Lavoie has accepted the title of Honorary President of the most important show in Quebec strictly dedicated to the cycling and cyclotourism. The 5th edition of the Bicycle and Cyclotourism Show Expodium will be presented February 16-18, 2007 at the Place Bonaventure of Montreal.

The Bicycle and Cyclotourism Show Expodium is the annual event awaited by all cyclists to find out novelties, trends and new cycling destinations. It has the most important cyclotourism exhibit in Canada.
In 2006, over 18,000 passionate visitors from all over Quebec participated at the Show. This year, an exhibit attendance record of over 175 exhibitors will be on site to discuss and answer questions, as will many experts and athletes. The visitors will surely be seduced by an interesting program including spectacles, cycling fashion shows, mechanic seminars, conferences, testing and product launches.
The Bicycle and Cyclotourism Show Expodium gathers under the same roof the main actors of the cycling industry and cyclotourism of Quebec. Manufacturers, distributors, retailers of the cycling industry and also the tourist associations, cycling event promoters and travel agents take the opportunity each year to present to the Quebec consumer current choices of products, services and travel available on the market.
The 5th edition of the Bicycle and Cyclotourism Show Expodium is a presented in collaboration with La Presse, TQS and CIBL Radio-Montreal.
Pierre Lavoie HIGHLIGHTS
1992 – At 29 years old, Pierre wins 1st at the Montreal Ironman. This began his international carrier.
1996 – 1st at the Hawaii Ironman World Championships in the category 30-34 years old.
1997 – Invited by Japan to the Ironman of Japan. He does not attend the event due to the death of his daughter Laurie, ill of Lactic Acidosis.
1998 – He becomes president of the Lactic Acidosis Association. His son Raphaël is born with the illness.
1999 – First Défi Pierre Lavoie raises $25 000 and brings awareness of the illness to the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region.
2000 – The second Défi Pierre Lavoie raises $89 000 for research, in memories of the courageous Raphaël.
2001 – Officially, Pierre becomes the spoke person for the Research and Action Corporation of the Hereditary Illnesses (CORAMH).
2002 – The third Défi Pierre Lavoie raises $152 000
For a second consecutive year, he finishes 1st at Sprint Large Hill of the World Loppet in Hull, one of the six World Cup events with over 2 000 participants.
2003 – Historical discovery of the gene responsible for the Lactic Acidosis illness.
Pierre makes a comeback to his roots and wins the Montreal Ironman.
2004 – Hawaii Ironman World Champion in Masters Category, the most difficult world endurance event.
2005 – The Défi Pierre Lavoie explodes with a national media coverage. This 24 hour 650 km cycling event, surpasses the objectives with $290 000 for the research and detection of the five most important hereditary illnesses of the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region.
2005 For a second and consecutive year Pierre is 1st at Hawaii Ironman World Championships and he beats all the records in the category 40-44 and finishes with a time of 9:02:25.
2005 – Pierre is named Personality of the year in the category Humanism, Courage and Personal Accomplishment at the Gala Excellence La Presse of Montreal.
2006 – Pierre is first at the “Top 25” most influential and powerful personalities of the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean.
He is named Quebec National Order Knight, the highest distinction conferred by the Quebec Government to men and women for their outstanding achievements.
Pierre is pursuing his battle until the research crew TEAM COX discovers a medication to treat the Lactic Acidosis, until the hereditary illness detection becomes available to the regional population and until he faces a new collective challenge.
