February 17, 2012 (Toronto, ON) – The Toronto International Bicycle Show is once again staging the industry’s top annual cycling spectacle for the 26th consecutive year showcasing its 2012 line-up of thrilling, world-class competitions, special events, hands-on activities and the most up-to-date displays of new bicycles, accessories and apparel from dozens of the top manufacturers and retailers.
At the same time, by promoting cycling as a healthy lifestyle, the show helps the environment. Cycling conserves air, water and other natural resources, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and noise levels. The show also gives back to the community by sponsoring BAM (Bicycle Assembly and Maintenance Program), donating BMX Ramps to the City of Toronto’s BMX Program, and giving free space and show passes annually to 20 Ontario clubs and associations to promote recreational cycling.
The bicycle industry’s No. 1 exclusive Canadian bicycle consumer show continues to be popular with attendance figures holding despite the current challenging economy. Surveys indicate that 50% of visitors purchase product at this show. Some 45% of visitors last year were in the key 18-34 buying group while 31% were 35 to 49 years of age – so the popularity of cycling is not restricted to any specific age group. The show is also a hit with young people – 10% who attended last year were 17 and under.
THIS YEAR’S ACTION LINE-UP INCLUDES…
– The Toronto BMX Jam. The world’s best Professional Street Course BMX Riders battling for thousands in cash and prizes. It’s an incredible spectacle. Riding in heats of 4 riders allows this competition to be one of the most exciting in the world. Saturday afternoon’s Pro Qualifying and the Pro Finals on Sunday afternoon are spectacular events with great stunts. And don’t miss the Krusher Best Trick Competition, a must-see radical trick showcase after the Pro Finals at 4 pm Sunday.
– Indoor Mountain Bike Championships. Sponsored by Contour Camera & Yakima Canada. Featuring big air and cash competitions. Former pro race and stunt champ Brent “Smitty” Smith has teamed up with 2012 Ontario Downhill Race organizer Jon Anderson from Tuff Rack to build some amazing wooden obstacles and create an awesome stunt and dual race course on the Bike Show Floor. Moving to a new area with a higher ceiling will mean that air time will reach totally new levels! Friday night will feature the Pro-only Tim DaSilva Challenge Race. With practice and racing all weekend there will be non-stop action in the Mountain Bike area!
– CFO Pro/Am BMX Flatland Freestyle Competition. Many of the world’s best freestylers perform their most radical tricks.
