July 2, 2010 (Uxbridge, ON) – The 13th annual 24 Hours of Summer Solstice, North America’s largest 24 hour mountain bike festival, started off eerily similar to the 2009 event with racers waking up to a rainy forecast. The difference this year however, was a much more weather proofed 17km course.
After a 2-hour foul weather delay, race action began at 2PM Saturday. This decision to delay the start made for good course conditions overall. Many of the singletracks held up, and the race course did not have to revert to a “rain course.” As darkness fell Saturday, course condition reports came back described as slick in sections – but still very fast, and completely ride-able.
“Course conditions couldn’t have been better considering Saturday morning’s weather. Our team couldn’t believe how much the course held up. Chico made the right decision to post-pone the race start, as this let the rain shed, keeping the trails firm and fast. Our team had a blast, we can’t wait for Hot August Nights!” expressed Scott Luscombe, Team Captain of the overall winning team ThinkSL.com/CarsonElectric.ca who completed 26 laps in just under 23 hours.
Ken Waring, a local rider to the area, had an amazing ride. Waring completed 19 laps in 21 hours, 24 minutes. Waring racing in the Solo Male 40+ took the overall solo title with the most laps completed by any solo. 11 solo women raced with Sarah Caylor taking the win with 15 laps in time of 21 hours, 31 minutes.
