2013 Canada Summer Games – Cycling BC Selection Weekend

April 08, 2013 – Cycling BC ran the first selection camp this weekend for the 2013 Canada Summer Games Road Team. The selection process included two individual tests on Saturday in addition to Barry’s Roubaix on Sunday. Athletes gained points based on their placings which go towards an overall.

The first individual test on Saturday morning comprised of a 3km hill climb up Burnaby Mountain, with a 6% average, and 10% maximun grade.

 In the afternoon, riders took part in the Pitt-Polder Time Trial organized by Local Ride Bicycle Shop. The afternoon time trial is a flat 12km one-way test, with riders required to participate “Merckx style,” with no aero gear other than a skin suit.

Sunday included the final test of the weekend, with Barry’s Roubaix road race in Pitt Meadows. The 10km circuit included over 4km of gravel path.

The next selection weekend for the Canada Summer Games BC road team will be May 18-19 weekend and will include the Enumclaw Stage Race. Full details on the selection  process can be found here.
