April 20, 2013 (Banff, Alberta) – The 2012 Alberta Sport Awards were held on April 19, in Banff, celebrating individuals who have showcased passion, determination and drive to excel at their chosen disciplines. These awards also recognize the coaches, officials and champions of sport whose dedication has aided Alberta’s athletes in achieving greatness.
Loyal Ma, owner of Rocky Mtn Bike N’ Board (located in Rocky Mountain House, Alta.), and contributor to Alberta’s and Canada’s cycling scene for over 30 years as a coach, instructor, official and event organizer, was one of four honourees who received The Officiating Recognition Award. Ma, who officiated at London 2012 along with multiple World Championships and World Cup events worldwide, was recognized in 2008 by Cycling Canada (then the Canadian Cycling Association) as Builder of the Year.The Awards were part of the 2013 Alberta Sport and Recreation Leadership Summit, a biannual training and development opportunity for sport, active living and recreation professionals that took place April 18-20, at the Banff Centre.
