2011 Junior Cycling BC Team Camp Report

release by Steve Lund/Cycling BC Team Coach

November 3, 2010 (Victoria, BC) – Twenty-five of BC’s top young racers took part in the annual October Testing and Training Camp held in Victoria at the Canadian Sport Center-Pacific October 29-31. The main focus of this camp is always to run athletes through the always fun and exciting Maximum Aerobic Power test on the CSC-Pacific’s state of the art SRM Bike.

Athletes start at an easy load, but every 3 minutes the resistance gets a little higher, taking riders to a level of slight discomfort just before they partake in a few minutes of real suffering. All for a purpose, the riders leave with valuable data that they can use in their training to get even faster over the winter.

Athletes were also treated to an informative session on eating for optimum performance and some new ideas on strength training and flexibility with CSC-Pacific experts Sue Boegman and Cam Birtwell. There was also a lot of riding on tap as the roadies set out on a ride on Saturday AM that would see some of them hit the 5 hour mark riding with Team BC and Victoria Academy of Cycling Coaches. There were also guest appearances from local Pro riders Nic Hamilton (Jelly-Belly), Marsh Cooper (Kelly Benefits), Bryson Bowers, Craig Logan, Noe Cooper, Team BC Coaches Jeff Ain and Steve Lund.
