September 28, 2010 (Geelong, Australia) – Here are some initial photos from the U23 Men’s ITT, the first event of the 2010 Road World Cycling Championships now underway in Geelong, Australia. After overnight rains, it looked like we may have clear skies but heavy rain is coming down as the Espoir men will do two 15.9km laps of a rolling course for a total of 31.8km.
Canada’s Hugo Houle of Sainte-Perpétue, QC is already on course and David Boily leads the third wave of riders leaving at 11:40 am local time (9:40pm EST). Two young Americans are the favourites as prodigy Taylor Phinney won the US Elite Men’s TT early this month while Trek-Livestrong teammate Ben King won the Elite men’s road race.
It looks like Australian Luke Durbridge is the early favourite as he caught his two-minute man, Houle at one lap into the race.
Phinney has won the U23 Men’s ITT over Durbridge in second and Marcel Kittel (Germany) in 3rd. Canada’s Boily finished in 25th while Houle was 32nd.
