2010 Paracycling Track Championships Report, Results

release by the CCA

July 7, 2010 (Bromont, QC) Cyclists from many provinces meet up at the track of the Canadian Cycling center in Bromont. Quebec today. Despite the fact that Quebec is suffering through one of the worst heat waves on record, where temperatures have gone beyond the 40 degree Celsius mark, many para-cyclists achieved their national standards.

These amazing performances have enabled those athletes to join a pool of select riders from which the national coaching staff will choose the delegation that will represent our nation at the next para-cycling World Track Championships.

However, the main goals for many athletes were the coveted national titles up for grabs.

The tandem duo of Daniel Chalifour (Équipe du Québec) and his pilot Alexandre Cloutier picked-up where they left off last week-end in Saint Georges de Beauce Québec, where they were crowned National Champions in the road race. Today, the duo claimed the kilo and pursuit titles. Their win in the pursuit race was especially rewarding for they won by only 4 tenths of a second over the bronze medalist from last years World Championships, Brian Cowie (BC Blind Sports) and his pilot Devon Smibert.

It was a good day as well for the tandem team of William Stanley (Synergy Racing Alberta) & his pilot pilot Doug Baron for they won the 200-meter flying start and placed second in the kilo.

In the C1-C4 category, Brayden McDougall (Bici Sport Alberta) showed once again that he is on his way to being part of the international elite, by winning the kilo title. His teammate, the 19 year old sensation, Jay Milley (Bici Sports) added two more medals to his collection, a silver in the pursuit and the kilo.

On the ladies side, one must not forget the title won today by Marie-Claude Molnar (Équipe du Québec) in the pursuit and her 4th place in the ITT (500m). A great showing, at the track, for the Bronze medalist from last years world championships road race.

Bronze medalist from the Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008, Genevieve Ouellet (Équipe du Québec) faired very well with her new pilot Émilie Roy, they took 4th place in the kilo event. This seems to be the beginning of a winning duo.
