January 7, 2010 (Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC) – Gestev, the organizers of the 2010 UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships, have released the preliminary program (subject to UCI approval) for the mountain biking event of the year, to be held in Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC, August 31-September 5.

Velirium 2010
That’s right, the traditional Velirium Festival will still take place in 2010, along with the Mont-Sainte-Anne Mountain bike and Trials UCI World Championships:
– August 14-15 weekend: Downhill Quebec Cup
– August 21-22 weekend: Cross-country Quebec Cup, Freeride Cup and kids race
– August 28-29 weekend: Raid Vélo Mag


2010 Raid Vélo Mag: For the first time ever – a two-day Raid
New in 2010: Raid Vélo Mag adopts a two-day format. A second race day will be added to the traditional endurance from Québec City to Mont-Sainte-Anne (about 35 and 75 km), with two backcountry race courses of about 30 and 50 km. In those new sections, long-distance enthusiasts will get their fill of singletracks, forest trails, and moose wintering yardsŠ guaranteed to please! A maximum of 1500 people will be able to take part in the event.

Three International Podium Finishes for the Mont-Sainte-Anne UCI MTB World Cup
With the mountain bike season now behind us for another year, it’s time to look back and take stock. Every year UCI, the International Cycling Union, asks racers, teams, journalists, sponsors, and UCI members to vote for their favorite events of the season. Mont-Sainte-Anne and Gestev were voted tops for the 4-Cross World Cup and came in third for the Downhill and Cross-Country World Cups! That’s great news as we prepare to host the UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships in September 2010.

“We’re very proud of the news,” said Gestev Vice-President Chantal Lachance. “We already knew our event was popular, but this vote confirms it. To see that our courses are up to standard and to be the only event to have three podium finishes will give us confidence with the World Championships at Mont-Sainte-Anne just around the corner in September 2010.”

According to UCI, “With one trophy and two third-place finishes, Mont-Sainte-Anne has clearly come out on top of the vote, which bodes well for the upcoming World Championships.”

Velirium 2009 Voted IMTTO Top Event Of the Year
Velirium 2009 was voted the Top Event Of the Year by IMTTO (International Mountain bike Teams, Technical support and Race Organisers). It is the first time that Gestev’s Mountain bike Festival, featuring three UCI World Cups, is top of the IMTTO list, competing with some 50 other international events. Maxxis-Rocky Mountain, Subaru-Gary Fisher, Fox Racing Shox, Specialized Factory Team and several other industry players are among the major members of IMTTO who voted in favour of Velirium for its top event organisation.
