August 14, 2009 – The 2009/10 Canadian National Track Team program is starting to take shape. Lead by newly appointed head coach Richard Wooles, the focus will be on developing a strong pool of riders who are committed to the sport and want to stand on the podium at world level events.
The goals of the track program are to increase the depth and size of the National Team. For the first time ever, the CCA is aiming to send competitive pursuit and sprint teams to the 2010 World Championships, and wants to have starters in all the World Championship events. Looking ahead to the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, the goal is to create a large, competitive team that will become successful on the international stage.
The 2009/10 proposed training and racing calendar for the National Track Team is attached. The fall training camps will be open to athletes and coaches who want to race internationally, become involved in the National Team Program, and are willing to push themselves to strive to be the best.
Riders and coaches who are interested in becoming a part of this program are asked to contact Petrina Tulissi, CCA Track Coordinator, at track@canadian-cycling.com.
