March 28, 2009 (Pruszkow, Poland) – Canada’s Tara Whitten is leading the Women’s Omnium after three events following her 5th place in the 200m TT, followed by a win in the Scratch race, and then a second place finish in the 2km individual pursuit. Whitten is in front with 8 points, Lesya Kalitovska (Ukraine) is second with 14 points, and 200m TT winner Yvonne Hijgenaar (Netherlands) sit in third with 17 points.
The women’s Omnium consists of five events – 200m TT, 5km Scratch race, 2km individual pursuit, Points race and 500m TT. The remaining two events will held at Saturday’s afternoon session.
In the men’s 200m Sprint Canada’s Travis Smith qualified 30th and did not advance. Grégory Bauge (France) topped the field followed by Jason Kenny (Great Britain) in second and Kévin Sireau (France) in third.
