March 26, 2009 (Pruskow, Poland) — Canada’s Travis Smith finished third in his heat at the first round of the men’s Keirin, just one spot shy of advancing to the next round. In the men’s 4000m Individual Pursuit the USA’s Taylor Phinney topped the qualifications in 4:15.160 bettering his own U.S. national record of 4:15.223 set in Copenhagen in Feb. at the final round of the 2008/09 UCI Track World Cup. Jack Bobridge (Australia) finished second, Dominique Cornu (Belgium) 3rd and Volodymyr Diudia (Ukraine) placed 4th – the fastest two riders race for gold while the 3rd and 4th placed riders compete for the bronze.
