October 11, 2009 (Edmonton, AB) – It’s another cold day in Edmonton for Junior Men’s and Elite women’s race now underway at the 2009 Jim Horner Cyclocross GP with 8 juniors and 17 elite women on the 3.2km course at the same time. The Juniors are off first followed by the women for 40min of racing.
Lap 1
A group of 5 juniors lead by Conor O’Brien (ON) Specialized-EMD Serono and current junior champ Kris Dahl (AB) CMC-Bow Cycle are off the front.
The women are off as well with newly crowned 2009 champ Alison Sydor (BC) Maxxis-Rocky Mountain with Natasha Elliott (ON) Garneau Club Chaussure Ogilvy and Pepper Harlton (AB) Juventus/RVC with her.
Lap 2
O’Brien and Dahl are still leading but both crash in the bowl and now Mackenzie Carson (AB) Juventus is in front with Kiernan Orange (QC) Ride With Randell in second. O’Brien has some chain issues.
Sydor is leading with Elliott just behind and Harlton on her wheel. Mical Dyck is a about 1 min behind in 4th, with Sarah Stewart (BC) Total Restoration in 6th and Jean Ann McKirdy (BC) Local Ride in 7th.
Lap 3
Orange is now in front with 4s on Dahl who recovered and is now in 2nd and Carson is 5s back in 3rd.
Sydor is advancing and has 8s on Elliott as Harlton can’t keep the pace and is 20-30 behind her.
Lap 4
It’s Orange and Dahl leading as they drop Carson at 40s s back. Then it’s O’Brien who recovered with Jayden Aldrich (SK) Team Sask about 15 sec behind.
Sydor has 17s on Elliot as Harlton is struggling – she’s crashed about 4x – and is about 1:15 behind. Then much further back it’s Dyck in 4th, Stewart in 5th, Vicki Thomas (ON) Ottawa Cross taking over 6th with McKirdy now in 7th.
Lap 5 Final
Current junior champ Dahl is leading on the final lap with 7s on Orange in 2nd with Carson another 30s back in 3rd and O’Brien in 4th with Aldrich in 5th.
Sydor keeps increasing her lead now at 25s over Elliott – Harlton is much further back.
