2009 Cyclocross Nationals in Edmonton Oct. 10 – Registration Open!

release by the Cyclocross Nationals

September 14, 2009 (Edmonton, Alberta) – In just over one month, the top cyclocross athletes in Canada will descend on Argyll Park in Edmonton, Alberta to compete for the title of Canadian National Cyclocross Champion. Over 200 cyclists are expected to compete in the event on October 10. The winners may represent Canada at the CX World Championships being held in Tabor in the Czeck Republic in January 2010.

The same athletes will be competing in the UCI Jim Horner Grand Prix, being held the next day (October 11, 2009) on the same course. The Jim Horner race will be a great opportunity for the top Canadian and international cyclocross riders to gain valuable UCI points early in the cyclocross season. Last year’s winner in the women’s elite category, Wendy Simms of Nanaimo, B.C., was able to lead the UCI world cyclocross points standings for much of the early season because of her performance at the National Championships and Jim Horner races.

Online registration for both events opened this past week and is available through www.karelo.com. The updated race guide, and other information about the race, can be found at www.cyclocrossedmonton.com.

About Cyclocross
The Sport of Cyclo-cross Races take place typically in the autumn and winter (the international or “World Cup” season is September-January), and consists of many laps of a short (2.5–3.5 km or 1.5–2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike whilst navigating the obstruction and remount in one motion.
