October 10, 2009 (Edmonton, AB) – The U23 Men’s National Championships race will soon be underway on a cold day in Edmonton with flurries now starting again. There are 14 riders on the start list and the U23 men will contest the 3.2km course for 50min.
Lap 1
A group of 3 are out front with Simon Lambert-Lemay (QC) Ride for Randell leading and Evan Guthrie (BC) Rocky Mountain Bicycles with David Larson (AB) Pedalhead Roadworks on his wheel.
Lap 2
The leaders have a 15 sec. lead on Brian Robinson (AB) CMC/Bow Cycle with another rider as the rest are strung out behind.
Guthrie has jumped into the lead with Larson right behind him.
Lap 3
Guthrie and Lambert-Lemay are in front with Larson trailing by 5 sec. in third. Lambert-Lemay has crashed at the halfway point of the lap and Robinson looks like he’s up to Larson.
Lambert-Lemay recovered and is back in 2nd with Larson in 3rd and Robinson in 4th.
Lap 4
Guthrie has a commanding lead with Larson in 2nd and Lambert-Lemay in third (we may have heard wrong on lap 3) with Robinson 4th. Guthrie looks strong and it looks like the battle for silver and bronze is between the three trailing riders.
Lap 5 – 3:35pm
Guthrie continues to forge ahead – est. 30 sec. lead – and now Robinson and Lambert-Lemay are together in 2nd and third as Larson has dropped back into 4th – the rest are much further back.
Lap 6 Final
Guthrie’s on his final lap and keeps extending his lead as the battle for silver is between Robinson in second and Lamber-Lemay in 3rd with Larson a few bike lengths back in 4th.
