April 5, 2008 (Port Alberni, BC) – This coming Sunday April 6th, Island Cup Cross Country racers will get their chance to show their stuff for the first stop of the season. Port Alberni will be the venue, site of the final race last year. Course designer Lee Blais offers up a single speed friendly course rolling around the Candy Store trails. “It’s 94% singletrack” and he suggests grabbing your super tacky knobbies for this spring course (weather report calls for possibly showers).
As with all this season’s Island Cup Series races, GRMBA licenses will be required for racing (Cycling BC Licenses are not valid) and you can register with GRMBA on race day. Club licenses or $10 one day licenses are available. Registration will be from 10-11:30 am at the Candy Store at the bottom of the hill driving into Port Alberni. Racing kicks off at approx 12 noon. Race fees are $15 for intermediate and expert and free for beginners.
More information, directions to the race, contact numbers, photos, results, and more can be found on our new Island Cup website at www.islandcupseries.com
