October 11, 2008 (Edmonton, AB) – The sun is shining and it’s 10 degrees Celsius as the Elite Women/Junior Men’s race is underway with 11 Junior men and 23 Elite women on the start line. The men are off first…both will complete 4 laps of the 3.1km course (40 min.).

Lap 1
Evan Guthrie (BC) Cycling BC is leading the junior men’s race with 4 chasers including Stuart Wright (NB) Mike’s Bike Shop, Sebastian Sleep (BC) Cycling BC, Kris Dahl (AB) Team Alberta/Bow Cycle and Kevin Thorpe (BC) Trek Red Truck racing p/b Mosaic Homes.

Wendy Simms (BC) KONA is leading the women’s race with Pepper Harlton (AB) Juventus Cycling Club in 2nd, Sarah Stewart (BC) Total Restoration Cycling Team in 3rd and Mical Dyck (AB) Terrascape in 4th.

Lap 2
It’s Guthrie still leading by 5 seconds with the 4 chasers close behind.

Simms has a 10-second lead on Harlton with Stewart in 3rd, Dyck in 4th and Loni Klettl (AB) in 5th.

Lap 3
As the junior me start the third lap it’s Guthrie still in front with 3 chasers on his wheel – Dahl is in 2nd, Thorpe is in 3rd and Wright is in 4th as Sleep has dropped off and is 30 sec. behind.

Simms has extended her lead to 40 sec. over Harlton in 2nd with Stewart in 3rd another minute back. Another 15 sec. back in 4th and 5th it’s Klettl just ahead of Dyck.

Lap 4 Final
Dahl has taken over the lead as the junior men begin their last lap followed by Guthrie in 2nd and Thorpe in 3rd as Wright has dropped off and is trailing by 10 sec.

Simms is in control as the women begin their final lap. Pepper Harlton is in 2nd at 45 sec. followed by Stewart in 3rd another 40 sec. back with Klettl in 4th another 15 sec. behind and Dyck is in 5th just behind her.
