2008 BMX Nationals – Time Trials

May 17, 2008 (Abbotsford, BC) – The 2008 Tim Hortons Canadian National BMX Championships started Friday in Abbotsford, BC with sunny skies and 30 degree weather as the track dried out following two days of rain. The track was well prepared by Cycling BC BMX Manager, Adam Muys. The Time Trials were held on Friday and many riders were looking to put some final laps together before the racing gets under way on Saturday.

In the Elite Women’s class the battle between Christine Miller and Danielle Brisson heated up with Miller posting the fastest time in round 1 and Brisson coming back to post the fastest time in round 2. Brisson was the fastest overall and will be the favourite going into Saturday’s championships. In the Elite Men’s class it was all about Crupi’s Scotty “The Big Easy” Erwood, who put together a fast lap just beating out BC’s Nick Goertzen and Alberta’s Jimmy Brown rounding out the top three spots on Friday.

With warm and windy conditions on Friday the pro races became the highlight of the session with more than a few Elite men struggling with the line and speed. Ontario’s Randall Neave also looked very fast on the technical Abbotsford track, Randall will be one to watch come Saturday afternoon.

With a trip to the 2008 BMX Worlds on the line the competition is sure to hit fever pitch come Saturday afternoon. In the Junior Men’s category it was Alex Sailor who posted the fastest time – Sailor made quick work of the track and looks to be the favourite going into Saturday’s competition. With sun and 18 degree temperatures forecast for Saturday, the racing should be exciting and intense.
