August 25, 2008 (Dieppe, NB) – Under beautiful sunny skies the 2008 Atlantic Track Championship went off without a hitch at the Caisse Populaire Velodrome in Dieppe, NB on Saturday Aug 23. The track season has been hampered all year by the wet weather and this was the second scheduled date for the championships.

Twenty riders from all over the Maritimes gathered to test their track skills. The group was divided into two categories based on their time over 200m each category then raced a scratch race, and individual pursuit, a points race and either a 500m or a kilometre depending on the category.

In the B group the overall winner for the day was 16 year old Ryan S. MacDonald from Pictou, NS. Second place in the group went to Dieppe’s Jean Leger and third place to Melanie Bordage also of Dieppe. MacDonald rides for the Pictou County Cycling Club while both Leger and Bordage ride for Mike’s Bike Shop CC.

In the A group, another 16-year-old took the day, with Stuart Wight from Riverview taking the top spot over Alain Goguen of Dieppe. Third spot went to Jean Richard Cormier also of Dieppe. All three riders ride for Mike’s Bike Shop.

The race was sponsored by Mike’s Bike Shop and Shimano and all riders went home at the end of the day with a lovely prize for their efforts as well as sunburn!
