2007 Tour de Georgia Stage 4 – Report and Photos

April 19, 2007 – With a healthy wind and an enthusiastic crowd cheering them on, riders wound up Stage 4 ITT of this year’s Tour De Georgia atop the scenic Lookout Mountain that rests on the border of Georgia and Tennessee. So scenic in fact that you can apparently see up to seven states from the summit if your eyes are up to the task. The Discovery Channel team probably noticed nothing of the kind as they charged into the familiar spot of 1st on GC and 1st on the stage podium as well.

Janez Brajkovic (Slo) Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team, the young Slovenian U23 time trial champion of 2004, not only sits in yellow today, but is also the man in the young rider jersey. The capper for the team was also having Levi Leipheimer take the win out on the road today, with a stellar 44 mins and 55 second victory over Dave Zabriskie of Team CSC.

Canadian Ryder Hesjedal (Health Net p/b Maxxis) didn’t do too shabbily either, coming in 13th over a very tricky course inside a field that contained several time trial specialists. Hesjedal’s performance is just another confidence booster from the boys on the Health Net squad. Their team captain Tim Johnson continues to be the most aggressive rider, and American Jeff Louder remains in the top five overall, securely in fourth place.

This was not an effort well-suited to Charles Dionne (Colavita/Sutter Home) who finished 71st out on the road with a time of 51:46.

Tomorrow the race heads towards the dreaded climb of Brasstown Bald, one of the most beloved stages for Tour De Georgia spectators and one of the most painful for those on two wheels.
