January 26, 2007 – In conjunction with the Toronto International Bicycle Show, March 2-4, at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto, with returning sponsors, Pizza Pizza, Shimano, Kona and even more space and dirt than last year’s awesome event, the 2007 Toronto Indoor comps will no doubt bring new challenges for riders and a great show for spectators.
Friday, March 2 will feature practice for both stunt and race as well as the annual pro race only BMX vs. MTB, in memory of 2006 Champion, BMXer Tim DaSilva. This race pays to third place for both men and women.
Saturday and Sunday are two separate days of comps, pro cash purse of $8,000 for the weekend, men’s pro MTB pays to sixth place both days. Ohio’s Billy Au, was the big race winner in 2006, taking wins on all three bikes, 20″, 24″ and 26″ throughout the event and plans on defending his titles in 2007.
2005 race champion Brian lopes is also considering a return to Toronto to reclaim his titles and is interested in the sophomore year of the dirt stunt comps. Also likely is a good battle from last year’s lady pro racers who split wins, Lee Ryckman and Sheila Morris and their many lady challengers.
Last years BMX dirt stunt champs Aaron Sherrie and Zeb Dennis will no doubt have a new bag of tricks to challenge any gamers, while the Mountain stunt boys, like last year’s double winner, Matt Zurlik, will be charging harder than ever.
Promoter Brent “Smitty” Smith plans for this year’s events to top any from his previous, with good friends, a fun course and fair competition, this exhibition type comp is open for riders from 14 years and up who can compete in the exhibition pro classes if deemed capable. Exhibition amateur classes are also great fun, open to 14 years and over with awesome merchandise prizes from our co-sponsors.
